Dental treatments
Each page lists practices that offer the treatment, what it typically costs, and what to ask before you book.
Which dental treatments are on the NHS?
Most are. The NHS says that, apart from teeth whitening, implants and veneers, the common dental treatments are usually available on the NHS. In England each course of NHS treatment costs one of three fixed charges, and you pay only the highest band in your course:
Band 1, £27.90: examination, advice, X-rays and scaling when clinically needed. See check-ups and hygiene.
Band 2, £76.60: everything in Band 1, plus fillings, root canal treatment and extractions.
Band 3, £332.10: everything in Bands 1 and 2, plus crowns, bridges, dentures and orthodontic treatment that is clinically needed.
Urgent, £27.90: an emergency appointment, such as draining an abscess or a temporary filling.

Before you book any treatment
Ask whether the treatment is NHS or private, and get the treatment and its cost in writing before any work starts. Ask which dentist will treat you, and check them on the General Dental Council register at gdc-uk.org. The full breakdown of what each band covers is in NHS dental charges in England.
